Horse riding season is about to shift into high gear as February's bitter winds give way to spring! This month has flown by, and weāre gearing up for an exciting March! Hereās a look at whatās been happening at the barn and whatās coming up next.
February Highlights
February may have been chilly, but that didnāt stop us! This past month, we:
āļø Powered through winter training and conditioning despite the cold
āļø Kept horses cozy by adding fresh straw to all of our outdoor shelters
āļø Started prepping for spring events and show season

Sky is progressing wonderfully in her pregnancy. For enthusiasts following along, we're in the final countdown! Will we welcome a filly or colt to our horse family? The betting pool is open š
Kayla Ward Barrel Racing Clinic

Kayla will be bringing her expertise to Southward for a barrel racing clinic. Whether you're looking to clean up your turns, build confidence, or knock seconds off your time, Kayla will set you on the right path!

Project Pony for Sale ā Meet Cam!
Cam is a just under 12HĀ and looking for his next home.
Heās an easy keeper, up to date on everything, and great for the farrier and deworming. While heās been ridden at a walk, jog, and lope, he hasnāt been in consistent work, so heās being sold as green. He can be a little pushy when not handled regularly, but has great potential for someone willing to put in the time!
Cam is partially blind in one eyeĀ from a weanling injury (doesnāt affect him!)

š± Heading into Spring ā Tips for Your Barn & Horse
With warmer weather (finally) on the way, nowās the time to start spring prepĀ for both your barn and your horse. Here are some key things to check off your list:
For Your Horse:
āļø Slowly increase workloadĀ to get them legged up for the season
āļø Check deworming schedulesĀ and talk to your vet about spring vaccinations
āļø Start transitioning feedĀ if neededāspring grass will be coming soon
For the Barn:
āļø Declutter tack roomsāclean out what you donāt use
āļø Check fencingĀ for winter damage and make any needed repairs
āļø Deep clean stalls and trailersĀ before the muddy season hits
For Yourself:
āļø Clean and condition leather tack
āļø Check blankets for rips and waterproofing quality
āļø Make a list of anything that needs replacing before show season starts
